NOTE ON PERIPHERAL EXPRESSWAYS FOR DELHI

  • Five National Highways converge at Delhi. These Highways also carry the traffic which are not destined for Delhi but due to non-availability of bye-pass, this traffic has to pass through Delhi.This adds congestion and pollution to the city.
  • Accordingly the need for Expressways around Delhi was felt. There are two expressways under consideration.
  • One on western side of Delhi. It passes through Haryana only. To be termed as WESTERN PERIPHERAL EXPRESSWAY. This alignment will take off from NH1 at Kundli and will join NH2 at Palwal via Manesar connecting NH8 and NH10.
  • Length – 135 km.

Cost

  1. Construction cost - 1200 crores
  2. Land acquisition cost - 167 crores
  3. Total project cost - 1367 crores

This project will be implemented by Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation (HSIDC)

  • Second on eastern side of Delhi. It passes through Haryana and UP. to be termed as EASTERN PERIPHERAL EXPRESSWAY. This alignment will take off at Kundli and will join NH2 at Faridabad via Ghaziabad and NOIDA. Connecting NH24.
  • Length - 105km

Cost

    i. Construction cost - 1612.6 crores

    ii. Land acquisition - 677.4 crores

    iii. Total project cost - 2290 crores

This project will be implemented by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI)

  • All state Governments concerned have accepted the above funding arrangements and actions are being taken accordingly.
  • Recently it was informed by Govt. of Haryana that the cost of land acquisition for Western Peripheral Expressway (KMP Expressway) has gone up to 630 crores.
